After their regular-season home finale, Southern Miss’ men’s tennis remains undefeated at home after a 4-3 comeback victory versus the Omaha Mavericks.
The Golden Eagles hosted one final team this season on Friday, March 13. They faced off against University of Nebraska Omaha. The team honored seniors Saheb Sodhi and Eric Perkowski before the game.
Southern Miss found themselves down early after the Mavericks secured the doubles point following two straight Golden Eagle losses. Going into the singles matches, Jose Murariu got the Golden Eagles on the board with a pair of 6-2, 6-3 victories. Sodhi quickly followed with his own 6-3, 6-2 victories to give Southern Miss their first lead of the game.
The Mavericks returned the favor on court one versus Kale Mize, who lost in a three-game battle. Perkowski lost his match 6-3, 6-4 on court five, returning the lead to Omaha. Ritabrata Sarkar quickly tied the match with his commanding 6-1, 6-3 victories.
With the match tied up and only one singles game remaining, all eyes turned to junior Olle Noltorp on court four to clinch the win for Southern Miss. After losing a close 6-7 first game, Noltorp rallied back with back-to-back 6-4 and 6-1 victories to earn the Golden Eagles the match-clinching point. This singles game pushed Noltorp’s singles win streak to four as he stands 4-1 on the season in singles matches.
