Southern Miss women’s tennis exits Sun Belt Championship Tournament early after loss to Appalachian State.
Eleventh-ranked Southern Miss took on the sixth-ranked App State in the second round of the women’s tennis championship tournament.
The Golden Eagles started the match with a doubles loss on court one, but won the doubles point after wins on courts two and three. Hannah Chambers and Miranda Xu secured the 6-3 victory on court two, followed by Kamornwan Kornsila and Pimmada Lim’s 7-6 win.
However, that was the Golden Eagles’ last taste of victory.
The Mountaineers earned four straight singles set victories, all of them in just two games.
Sudo won a game in her singles match on court two, but the set was left unfinished as the Mountaineers won the match 4-1.
With their season now complete, the Golden Eagles finish with an 8-10 record.
The team finishes with a record of 31-45 in singles games. Xu led Southern Miss in singles play with an 8-5 record, followed by 5-5 Sudo.
The Golden Eagles had more success in doubles play, with a 24-19 record.
Duo Angelina Blinova and Sudo led the team with an 8-7 record followed by 8-5 duo Chambers and Xu. With Blinova and Chambers being the only upperclassmen, Head Coach Piyanart Engineer will have many of her players return next year, hungry for success.
App State made it to the Semifinals after wins in round 3 against Troy before being knocked out by Marshall.
