Southern Miss tennis fell in back-to-back matches on the road against the Troy Trojans.
Both men’s and women’s tennis teams battled in Troy this weekend against the Trojans. The women’s team got the two-match set started on Saturday. The Golden Eagles found themselves down early after a quick two-game doubles match, giving the Trojans the first point of the match. Miranda Xu tied the game up for the Golden Eagles with her commanding 6-2 and 6-0 game victories. But the Trojans went on to win the next three singles matches to clinch the game.
The loss puts the Golden Eagles at an even .500 with a 7-7 record as they look to snap their losing streak at home against the University of New Orleans this Wednesday.
The men’s team played the Trojans on Sunday. Freshman Julius Bult and Eric Perkowski won their doubles match 6-2, and Jose Murariu and Saheb Sodhi secured their own 6-3 victory to give the Golden Eagles the first point of the match.
Bult’s doubles win marks his first win as a Golden Eagle. The Trojans quickly took the lead back from Southern Miss with three straight two-game singles sets.
Down two points, Murariu lost his first singles game 2-6, but managed to come back to win his next two games 6-3 and 6-0. Murariu secured the Golden Eagles first singles point to cut the Trojans lead down to one.
After another three-game singles set, the Trojans took the match-clinching fourth point as Southern Miss fell 4-2.
