Southern Miss’ men’s tennis team lost on the road in Florence, Ala. versus the North Alabama Lions.
With only a few games remaining before the conference tournament, the Golden Eagles visited North Alabama for the away matchup. Coming off four straight losses, the Golden Eagles looked to end their losing streak against the 11-8 Lions, who are coming off a narrow victory against Stetson.
North Alabama earned the first point of the match after two 6-2 victories in doubles games earned them the doubles point.
The Lions continued their attack as they took two-straight singles sets in just two games to give them the quick 3-0 lead over the Golden Eagles. Jose Murariu answered in his singles set with a pair of 7-5, 6-3 victories to give Southern Miss their first point of the match. Murariu’s game gives him a 8-5 singles record to lead the Golden Eagles.
Despite Saheb Sodhi taking one of his games on court three, the Lions took the momentum back from the Golden Eagles with three more wins to clinch their 6-1 victory over Southern Miss. This loss pushes the Golden Eagle’s losing streak to five as they now stand 7-10 on the season and 1-8 on the road.
Southern Miss faces off in Lafayette on April 11 against the 8-6 Rajun Cajuns and closes out their regular season the next day against Nicholls, who stands at 4-11. The Sun Belt Conference tournament begins on April 16.
