Playing on the road, the Golden Eagles lost two of their three matches against the Texas State Bobcats.

After going 4-3 in the seven-game homestand, the Golden Eagles faced off in a three-game match against Texas State. Friday’s matchup started out hot for the Bobcats with back-to-back home runs in the second inning to give them a 2-0 lead. Texas State followed those runs in the fourth with a three-run homerun that gave them a 5-0 lead going into the fifth inning. Kinsley Gordon-Silvey managed to get the Golden Eagles on the board with a run in the fifth inning, but the Bobcats put the Golden Eagles to bed with a two-run home run in the sixth. Southern Miss lost the game 7-1.

Hannah Christian tried to turn the tables on Saturday. She started the game with a first-inning home run to give the Golden Eagles an early 1-0 lead. The Bobcats tied the game in the third before opening up the game with a three-run home run in the fourth to give them a 4-1 lead. They commanded the game the rest of the way as they took the 8-1 victory.

The Golden Eagles looked to get back the Bobcats in their final game on Sunday. Abbi Troquille hit a two-run homerun out to left field in the second inning to give the Golden Eagles the early 2-0 lead. Southern Miss held strong for the remainder of the game, only allowing a single homerun for the Bobcats as Southern Miss held on for the 2-1 victory.

Despite the victory, the Golden Eagles struggled to get hits throughout the weekend. They only earned three hits in their first two games and five hits in their win to give them 11 hits for the weekend. Meanwhile, the Bobcats got nine hits in their first game alone, followed by six in their second win.

This weekend’s games gives the Golden Eagles an 8-10 away record and 30-19 record on the season. The Golden Eagles will battle in Oxford on Tuesday against Ole Miss before returning home for their final homestand of the season against South Alabama this coming weekend.
